Sharpening the Saw...

With Jack Bertolino

The summer break is an opportunity for those in education to enjoy a brief respite from the whirlwind pace of the academic year.  It provides time to catch up on reading and learn something new.  NJEA’s  Summer Leadership Conference has long been a staple on the calendar. Two years ago, the conference was renamed in honor of retired Field Service Director Jack Bertolino.

The conference offers over 30 workshops designed to offer NJEA members the opportunity to develop advocacy, organizing, and communication skills to enhance the efficacy of the local associations. I am attending "Basic and Advanced Grievance Processing."  The training is open to all, though, not just association officers.  The registration normally opens in April.  Look for conference information in the NJEA Reporter.  Save the first week in August of 2013 for next year’s conference.

CBA Minutes….Article XXVIII  Transfers

The August business meeting historically contains many of the transfers processed during the summer in preparation for the fall opening of school. Affected members should be notified within specified timelines.  Refer to pages 33 -34 in the CBA.
